Children's Museum of Sonoma County


Reporting to the School and Community Programs Coordinator, Field Trip Docents incorporate a love of children with an interest in science and the arts to lead on-site field trips for early elementary students. This includes teaching curriculum, encouraging student interaction with exhibits, as well as helping with program set-up and breakdown. This is a part-time, non-exempt position, and pays $15 per hour.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site field trips for school groups (grades TK – 2nd. )
  • Teach established CMOSC curriculum. Topics currently include Lifecycles & Adaptations (bees,
  • seeds, worms and composting, animal habitats) and Physics Fun (energy, motion, sound, light
  • and shadows, engineering challenge)
  • Ensure a positive and safe experience for students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through
  • second grade
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills and confidence with classroom/group management
  • Flexible schedule that allows for weekday availability
  • An interest in working with young people to develop their appreciation and awareness of
  • exploration, science and the outdoors
  • Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups of adults and children
  • Ability to communicate in conversational Spanish a plus but not required

Position & Physical Requirements

  • Able to be on time and prepared for each commitment
  • Able to commit to 1 -3 mornings a month during the school year
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces and lift up to 15 pounds
  • Have the ability to pass a background check
