If we are to raise the next generation of innovative technologists and forward thinking scientists we must nurture the gift of wonder at the earliest age so that this virtue can serve our children as they grow and face the serious challenges of the future.  Children’s Museums have proven to be successful in teaching children complex ideas in fun and exciting ways and to foster the stimulation of the love of learning in children.”

The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County will be a safe, learning facility, rich in interactive exhibits and programs.  Imaginations will be ignited through creative exploration of the arts , sciences, and culture.  Exhibits and programs will be accessible to all children, including those with disabilities. Summer and day camp sessions, parent education, after school programs, and school field trip experiences will be offered.

WHERE IS THE MUSEUM?
We just signed a lease on a building in Santa Rosa at 1835 W. Steele Lane right next door to the Charles M. Schulz Museum.

The Museum will be open on a limited basis until our grand opening in 2013. While we are very excited to finally have a permanent home, there is much work to be done and money to be raised.  Please consider making a donation to the museum.  Any amount is greatly appreciated and will help us open up that much faster!

In the mean time, we continue to participate in public events and schools with our Museum-on-the-Go Program.  In 2010, the Museum-on-the-Go visited 20 underserved schools.  Check out the Museum-on-the-Go page for more information.

If you'd like more information on how to donate or how the Museum-on-on-the-Go might come to your school, please email

The Museum-on-the-Go is a mobile museum on wheels, which started two years ago as a way of raising awareness and support for a children’s museum in Sonoma County.  From it’s humble beginnings at the Petaluma Movies in the Park events where it was basically a table with a few activities – it has grown in size to more than 11 exhibits and activities focused on science and the arts.

Exhibits range in subject matter from magnetism to hydrodynamics to air pressure to expressing oneself through face painting.  All exhibits work towards the mission of igniting imagination, cultivating creativity, and nurturing curiosity.  For a more detailed listing and description of exhibits, please see our EXHIBITS page.

In 2007 and 2008, the Museum-on-the-Go served over 5000 children – with an average of 166 children per event.  We logged over 1000 volunteer hours and are so very proud of the 30 volunteers who dedicated so much of their time to the vision and mission of a children’s museum.  Without their tireless efforts, the Children’s Museum of the North Bay simply would not exist.

We are currently developing a Museum-on-the-Go program for schools to be launched in spring of 2008.  If you're interested in having the Museum-on-the-Go visit your school, please email info@childrensmusuemnb.org for more info.
