Outreach Assistant


The Children’s Museum seeks an experienced, outgoing, and bilingual educator to serve as a Museum-on-the-Go Assistant. This position reports directly to the Outreach Manager, and indirectly to the Director of Education. The Outreach Assistant helps the Outreach Manager deliver programs to school groups, library patrons, and community members at special events. This is a regular, non-exempt position that offers a minimum of 10 hours a week.

Job Responsibilities

  • At schools and libraries: teaching science curriculum, facilitating activities, managing groups of children,
  • moving and setting up exhibits, answering questions effectively, interacting with the public in a professional
  • manner, ensuring safety of all visitors
  • At community events: moving and setting up exhibits, communicating and engaging with diverse families,
  • enforcing rules, representing CMOSC in positive and professional manner, ensuring safety of all visitors
  • Communicate effectively with the Outreach Manger about program needs and plans
  • Ensure clear communication to Outreach Manager and the School & Community Programs Coordinator
  • about schedule availability
  • Ensure clear communication with supervisors about scheduled hours and receive prior approval for any
  • over time
  • Assist in observation and documentation of participation and feedback


  • Bachelor's degree and/or work experience in education, early childhood development, or museum studies
  • Must speak Spanish and English fluently
  • Ability to speak with ease in front of large & small groups of people
  • Ability to interact with young children and the public with enthusiasm and patience
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team
  • Ability to drive in the state of CA & comfortable driving a Dodge Sprinter Van

Preferred Experience

  • Educational background in science, outdoor school, or challenge course facilitation
  • Previous experience interacting with young children, preferably in a teaching environment
  • Understanding of classroom behavior management strategies

Availability Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule: must be available Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays as well as evening & weekend hours as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move, stand for long periods, bend, kneel and lift objects up to 30 lbs. easily
  • Must be able to drive, back up, load, and unload a large commercial van
  • Must be able to travel to events throughout Sonoma County & nearby counties
  • This position requires a mandatory background security screening.
