PG&E DONATES $100,000 to Children’s Museum of Sonoma County
Grant Will Show How Clean Energy Source Can Power Homes and Businesses
SANTA ROSA, Calif.—Children in the North Bay can learn about clean and renewable energy thanks to a $100,000 grant from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) recently awarded to the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County (CMOSC).
The grant is being used to design and sponsor a hydroelectric exhibit in the outdoor nature education area of the new children’s museum called Mary’s Garden. The exhibit will show children how hydroelectric plants work and how PG&E uses this clean energy source to power homes and businesses.
“I am deeply grateful to PG&E for strengthening our community by helping to bring this vital resource to fruition,” said Collette Michaud, CEO of the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County. “A hands-on facility for children will enhance Sonoma County’s landscape and become a safe place where children are encouraged to think for themselves and expand their problem-solving abilities through creative exploration.”
CMOSC is undergoing a multi-year campaign to raise $1.8 million to finish the indoor exhibits and building upgrades to their site, located at 1835 West Steele Lane, Santa Rosa, adjacent to the Charles M. Schulz Museum. The museum also recently received a grant from California Parks and Recreation for outdoor exhibits and improvements on the four-acre lot.

Currently, the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County reaches more than 10,000 children and their caregivers each year through “Museum-on-the-Go” community events, school outreach programs, and special events and birthday parties held at the site. The museum is slated to open in late 2013. It is currently open for special events like MayDay is PlayDay and FUNtazmagoria.
