Program Coordinator

 

Mission

To assist in the development and growth of the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County’s on-site programming.

Role

  • Assist the Director of Programs in the development of daily, weekly and monthly programming for Museum visitors
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate daily, weekly and monthly programming on-site
  • Provide ideas and suggestions on areas of development for the Museum’s program offerings
  • Work with the Visitor Experience Manager to train and coach Playologist Team Members in facilitation of on-site programming
  • Act as site supervisor as needed
  • Ensure clear communication to appropriate team members of all observations and findings 

Position Overview

The Children’s Museum seeks an experienced, and outgoing Programs Coordinator to assist with development and facilitation of on-site programs. The Program Coordinator is responsible for development of onsite art, science, nature, and early childhood education programs, and facilitates programming with our visitors. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with health care benefits, starts at $17/hour.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Director of Programs in the development of daily, weekly and monthly programming for Museum visitors
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate daily, weekly and monthly programming on-site
  • Work with the Visitor Experience Manager to train and coach Playologist Team Members in facilitation of on-site programming
  • Ability to act as site supervisor as needed
  • Ensure clear communication to appropriate team members of all observations and findings
  • Assist in tracking program development and adhere to an annual budget
  • Assist in observation and documentation of participation and feedback
  • Stay up-to-date on current trends in the field, and adjust programming accordingly

Qualifications

  • BA degree and/or 2+ years’ experience in education, early childhood development, or museum studies
  • Ability to speak with ease in front of large & small groups of people
  • Ability to interact with young children and the public with enthusiasm and patience
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team

Preferred Experience

  • Early childhood educational background in science, art, nature, STEM subjects
  • Experience in developing children’s programming
  • Experience interacting with young children, preferably in a teaching environment
  • Understanding of classroom behavior management strategies
  • Availability Requirements
  • Must be available at least 1 weekend day (Sat preferred), no exceptions
  • Must be available to work occasional early mornings and evenings

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to move, stand for long periods, bend, kneel and lift objects up to 30 lbs. easily
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather

Position Details

  • Hours: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full-time position
  • Schedule: Must be available at least 1 weekend day, Saturdays preferred, no exceptions
  • Pay Rate: $17.00/hour + benefits
