Current Volunteering Opportunities
Opportunity Type: Museum Docent
Date(s): Any Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun
Time Frame: Any hour increment between the hours of 8:30am and 4pm
Job Description: The primary duties of this role include interacting with guests on the Museum floor, enforcing rules and policies, answering basic questions posed by guests, explaining the science behind exhibits, assisting guests in the art studio, assisting Playologists with programming when needed, and helping to ensure that guests are enjoying their visit to the Museum.
Opportunity Type: NEW Exhibit Installation!
Opportunity Description: Come help build and install a NEW exhibit at the Children's Museum! Assist our Facilities Manager with basic carpentry and building tasks.
Date(s): ANY day between Saturday, December 9th and Sunday, December 17th
Time Frame: hours are flexible between 9am and 4pm daily
Job Description: Primary tasks will include moving large objects, using power tools, unraveling large rolls of tape, assisting with basic carpentry tasks, cleaning, etc.
Opportunity Type: Special Event Staff at SNOW DAYS!
Event Description: In January, the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County will create a winter wonderland right in Santa Rosa! 40 tons of fresh snow will be delivered to the Museum and maintained over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, creating a space for children to explore, build, create, and play outside.
Date(s): Saturday, January 13th and/or Sunday, January 14th and/or Monday, January 15th
Time Frame: 8am-12:30pm OR 12pm-4pm (these shifts available all days)
Job Description: Primary tasks will include supervising children at play, answering basic questions posed by guests, enforcing museum rules, directing parking lot traffic, helping with snow-related activities, and ensuring that guests are enjoying their visit.
Potential Physical Requirements of Volunteers
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds
- Comfortable being indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to bend and kneel easily
- Ability to make eye contact and smile – repeatedly

Transformation Tuesdays COMING SOON!
The first Tuesday of each month is reserved for companies wishing to book group volunteer projects at the Museum for their employees. Tasks can range from general maintenance, to site clean-up, to special events, to helping install exhibits.
