Promoting critical thinking and utilizing creativity and employing both gross and fine motor skills, Fort FAM will be an outdoor laboratory for design, construction, and innovation. The overall theme of Fort FAM is creative and constructive discovery and play. Play is intrinsically self-motivated, spontaneous, and joyful, and through play children meet key developmental milestones. Fort FAM will also provide an environment for learning and socializing among children and adults.
Fort FAM will include:
Maker Space
- Maker Space, where Children will construct dens, forts, and fantastic structures and spaces, design and build sculptures from natural materials, dig, excavate, and mine the earth.
Fort
- A towering fort structure, where kids can safely navigate via their own intuition and curiosity. Where experiences and activities are created. This structure will offer the permission kids need to invent and reinvent routes, games, imaginary environments, and personal bests. It is one world with endless outcomes.
Zipline / Swing
- Two ziplines afford older and younger children the opportunity to experience this activity in a safe and age-appropriate way. Older kids will enjoy a challenging and exciting zipline while a second one is geared to toddlers or those with special needs.
- A group swing will invite multiple children to safely enjoy the swaying movement at the same time so important for a sense of proprioception in children.
Amphitheater
- The Enchanted Amphitheater will be the site of community performances by local cultural, dance, and theater organizations, storytellers, poets, and musicians.
Picnic Area
- Picnic area for visitors to use at their leisure nestled under the branches of a beautiful heritage oak tree. This area can also be rented out for private events after regular museum operating hours.

- The Storybook Grange located at the back of the Museum is designed to connect Mary’s Garden to the new Fort FAM area through a natural setting of redwoods and heritage oaks. Along the way, children will encounter cozy nooks where they can rest and let their imaginations soar or sit down and listen to stories read aloud each day by “Playologists.”
- Outdoor solar powered bathrooms will be conveniently located nearby.
- A mud play area with water spigots nearby for use in play as well as clean up.
- Recycling and re-use area will provide educational opportunities for families wanting to learn more about how to be good environmental stewards.

Zipline / Swing
- Dos tirolinas ofrecen a los niños mayores y más pequeños la oportunidad de experimentar esta ac5vidad de una manera segura y apropiada para su edad. Los niños mayores disfrutarán de una 5rolina desafiante y emocionante, mientras que una segunda está orientada a los niños pequeños o aquellos con necesidades especiales.
- Un columpio en grupo invitará a varios niños a disfrutar de forma segura del movimiento oscilante al mismo 5empo tan importante para una sensación de propriocepción en los niños.
Anfiteatro
- El Anfiteatro Encantado será el si5o de actuaciones comunitarias de organizaciones culturales, de danza y teatro locales, narradores, poetas y músicos.
Picnic
- Zona de picnic para que los visitantes los u5licen en su 5empo libre enclavado bajo las ramas de un hermoso roble patrimonial. Esta zona también se puede alquilar para eventos privados después del horario regular de funcionamiento del museo.

- El Storybook Grange ubicado en la parte posterior del Museo está diseñado para conectar Mary’s Garden con el nuevo área de Fort FAM a través de un entorno natural de secuoyas y robles patrimoniales. En el camino, los niños se encontrarán con rincones acogedores donde pueden descansar y dejar que su imaginación se eleve o se siente y escuchar historias leídas en voz alta cada día por “Playologists”.
- Los baños con energía solar al aire libre estarán convenientemente ubicados cerca.
