The Maintenance Intern will support the Facilities team during Spring 2025 in maintaining and enhancing the interactive exhibits, facilities, and grounds, contributing to a welcoming overall Museum environment. This role provides hands-on experience in the technical and operational aspects of Museum upkeep, including the repair, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of exhibits and general facilities. The intern will learn from Museum professionals while contributing to the smooth operation of the Museum, ensuring exhibits are engaging, safe, and well-maintained for children and families. This role reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Exhibit Production.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibit Maintenance and Support:
- Assist with routine inspections and basic repairs of interactive exhibits, mechanical systems, electrical components, and other exhibit features.
- Help troubleshoot and resolve exhibit malfunctions, including digital, interactive, and mechanical components.
- Perform cleaning and upkeep of exhibits, ensuring they remain visually appealing and functional for visitors.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining exhibit-related tools and supplies.
General Facility and Grounds Maintenance:
- Assist with minor repairs and maintenance in the Museum’s building, such as plumbing, lighting, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Support groundskeeping activities by assisting with landscaping, trash removal, and maintaining outdoor play areas and paths.
- Ensure that the Museum’s public spaces are safe, clean, and visually appealing for guests.
- Support staff with set-up, breakdown, and troubleshooting before and during special events or high-traffic days to ensure a smooth experience for visitors.
- Additional related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Exhibit Production.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in a high school or college program, preferably with a focus on facilities management, engineering, or a related field.
- Some prior experience in maintenance, carpentry, electrical, or mechanical work.
- Basic knowledge of power tools, hand tools, or exhibit technology (e.g., digital media, sensors, lighting).
- Interest in working in an educational or child-focused environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving skills and an interest in hands-on, technical work.
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with Museum team and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to bend, lift, stand, carry, climb ladders, and work at a fast pace.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
POSITION DETAILS
This is a part-time, hourly, temporary position, reporting to the Director of Facilities and Exhibit Production.
This position begins in March 2025 and ends in May 2025.
Starting pay rate: $18.00 per hour.
