The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and creative STEM Education Intern to join our Wonder Camp team for Summer 2025! As a STEM Education Intern, you will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of engaging, hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities for children ages 6-12. You’ll have the opportunity to work in a fun, interactive museum environment while fostering curiosity and inspiring the next generation of innovators. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in informal education, STEM programming, and museum operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide Camp Support: Assist with daily camp operations, including managing camper groups, supervising free play, and providing guidance during snack and lunch breaks. Ensure that all children are actively engaged, safe, and having fun.
- Support STEM Program Development: Assist in the design and preparation of daily STEM-based activities and projects for camp participants, which could include experiments, building challenges, coding, and environmental science projects.
- Lead Interactive STEM Experiences: Co-lead small groups of campers in hands-on STEM activities, guiding them through experiments, demonstrations, and problem-solving challenges in a fun, supportive environment.
- Foster Critical Thinking and Collaboration: Encourage campers to think critically and work together to solve real-world problems, promoting teamwork, creativity, and inquiry-based learning.
- Prepare and Organize Materials: Ensure that all necessary materials for STEM activities are organized, safe, and ready for use, and assist in maintaining the Museum’s resources.
- Assist with Camp Setup and Breakdown: Help with setting up the camp environment each day, ensuring that all materials are organized and ready. Assist with clean-up at the end of each session.
- Additional related duties as assigned by the Camps & Volunteer Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years or older by start date.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Must be currently enrolled in education, environmental science, or a STEM-related field.
- Previous experience working with children (through teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or other settings) is preferred.
- Strong interest in sharing enthusiasm for STEM topics with children in a hands-on, engaging way.
- Ability to clearly explain complex ideas and engage children in STEM activities. Must be able to work effectively with campers, their families, and staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changes as needed.
- Sensitive to working with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with a positive attitude and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
- Ability to think creatively, adapt activities to meet the needs of different learners, and solve challenges on the fly.
- Willingness to maintain the highest safety standards in all aspects of camp and Museum activities.
- First Aid/CPR Certification required. (Must be willing to complete certification before the start of camp if not already certified.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and assist with setup and breakdown of materials and equipment.
- Must be able to stand, sit and move around for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic museum environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
POSITION DETAILS
This is a part-time, hourly, temporary position, reporting to the Camps & Volunteer Manager.
This position begins in June 2025 and ends in August 2025.
Internship pay rate: $18.00 per hour.
