Visitor Services Coordinator

The Children’s Museum is seeking an outgoing, energetic leader to ensure that the Museum’s Visitor Services team (Playologists) provides visitors to the Museum with the best possible experience.

The ideal candidate will be organized, customer service-oriented, and able to follow through with designated tasks in an efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct the Visitor Services team to engage, teach, and support visitors at the Museum.
  • Ensure clear communication of all observations and findings to appropriate Museum team members.
  • Create staff schedules for Visitor Services team, Museum-on-the-Go, and special events.
  • Assist Front Desk Coordinator with weekly financial procedures.
  • Be an effective partner with Museum senior management.
  • Run the daily team rally meetings.
  • Establish and implement Visitor Services team members’ daily rotation schedule.
  • Ensure the Museum is presented overall to the public at the highest level of quality.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of exhibit parts and pieces.
  • Communicate with Facilities team regarding broken exhibits, exhibit loose parts inventory, as well as other facility and exhibit-related needs.
  • Assist Programs Department with program facilitation, communication, and surveys.
  • Assist in the regular cleaning of exhibits and museum spaces.
  • Open and close Museum as needed, ensuring the building and grounds are secure.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all by monitoring that Museum rules and code of conduct are followed.
  • De-escalate challenging situations with visitors with a calm, positive, and customer-centered attitude, and handle guest comments, suggestions, and questions.
  • Cover Visitor Services team breaks and shifts as needed.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Additional projects or duties as assigned by Director of Operations.


  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Must be available to work weekends and occasional evenings.
  • BA/BS or equivalent preferred.
  • Customer service experience in a retail, restaurant, or museum setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven technical and computer skills.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel; ability to learn additional software programs.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Ability to complete tasks with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain professional behavior under pressure.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors as needed.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.

Position Details:

  • This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position with benefits, reporting to the Director of Operations.
  • Pay rate: $21.00 per hour.
