Private Playdate FAQs

Will there be other people at the Museum during our playdate?

No, the Museum will not be open to the public during your playdate. You and your guests will have all open exhibit areas to yourselves.

Do we have to wear masks during our playdate?

Yes, masks are required for adults and children ages 3 and up inside the Museum. Masks are optional outside.

How many guests can I bring?

We have two playdate options:
– Up to 20 people: $400
– Up to 30 people: $550
Your guests should include a mixture of adults and children to allow for proper supervision of all children present.

If my guests have Museum memberships, do they still count towards my guest total?

Yes, they will still count towards the total number of guests. Museum memberships do not provide admission to private playdates or birthday parties.

Can adults without children attend our playdate at the Museum?

Yes, adults without children may attend your playdate. All guests check-in by writing their first and last names on our check-in list.

If we arrive early, can we start our playdate?

No. Reservations begin and end on time, allowing for staff to clean and reset between groups. Please do not arrive prior to 4:00 p.m. The Museum must be reset prior to your party’s arrival. If guests arrive prior to 4:15 p.m. they will be allowed to remain inside the Museum Garden, not inside the Science Imagination Gallery.

Can we bring our own food?

Yes! However, please do not bring alcohol, drinks in glass bottles, or foods containing peanuts. All food must remain in the picnic area only.

May I have food delivered to the Museum?

Yes! Please notify Visitor Services team during check-in if a food delivery is scheduled. Please keep food in the picnic area only.

Can we bring an alcoholic beverage for the adults?

Alcohol is prohibited from the museum premises.

Can we bring balloons, streamers, confetti, or a piñata?

The Museum strives to be environmentally conscious. Please assist us by being mindful of this when considering decorations you might want to bring. Limit your decorations to the picnic area only. Mylar balloons are permitted. However, please do not bring latex/rubber balloons, streamers, piñatas, glitter, or confetti onto the premises.

Does the Museum provide any supplies like cups or plates, etc.?

The museum does not provide supplies. Please bring your own tablecloths, napkins, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, etc.

Can we bring in outside vendors or performers?

Outside entertainers, performers, vendors, and live animals are not permitted.

Do we need to clean up afterwards?

Yes, you are responsible for cleaning up the picnic area before the end of your reservation time. Please remove decorations, dispose of waste and food in the bins provided, and clear tables. A Visitor Services team member will offer their help with clean up 15 minutes before your reservation time ends.

What is your cancellation and schedule change policy?

– For cancellations more than 7 days before the playdate: you will receive a full refund, minus a $50 administrative fee.
– For cancellations with 7 or fewer days before the playdate: you will receive a refund of 50%.
– Requests to reschedule will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
– In the event that the Children’s Museum should have to cancel a reservation for unforeseen circumstances, you will be issued a full refund or may choose to reschedule on an alternate available date.
