In recognition of the local public health emergency regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Children’s Museum is monitoring the situation very closely. The Museum has strong existing practices around cleaning and safety protocols, as well as other procedures to keep our museum in top shape during cold and flu season. Our existing routine strategies are specifically designed to reduce the spread of a wide variety of infectious diseases. Given the public response and concern around COVID-19, we have been proactively reviewing our practices, as well as considering potential new processes to help remain responsive as a public space—and public resource.

The safety and care of all our members and visitors is of utmost concern to us. Part of what makes COVID-19 scary is that it’s new—but our Museum and the field of children’s museums has tested practices that work to keep kids safe while playfully learning. As a trusted resource for children and families, we are committed to being responsive in service to our community.

Practicing good hygiene is always the best way to keep yourself and others healthy:
- Stay home if you have a fever or are feeling sick.
- If you feel sick, call your doctor before going to the hospital to seek treatment.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when sneezing or coughing.
- Wash your hands with soap and water often.
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces.
- The flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, but it is highly recommended to help keep you healthy.
