The Great Train Month
Throughout the Month of May!
Choo Choo! This May, come explore, play, and sing to celebrate the Great Train Month with the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County! In lieu of the Great Train Days event traditionally held in the month of July, the Museum is celebrating the joy and wonder of trains all month long.
Time
Everyday throughout the month of May during regular business hours.
Entrance and admission to the event is included with daily admission to the Museum.

Train Model Displays
Model Trains from Redwood Empire Garden Railway Society
May 13 to May 19 from 10:00am – 2:00pm
The Redwood Empire Garden Railway Society (REGRS) will have their model train on display in the Dow Event Center from May 13 to May 19 from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Speak with a member of REGRS to learn more about trains and ferroequinology (the study of locomotives).
Model Trains from Coastal Valley Lines Model Railroad Club of Sonoma County
May 22 to May 27 from 10:00am – 2:00pm
Coastal Valley Lines Model Railroad Club of Sonoma County (CVLRR) will have their model train on display in the Dow Event Center from May 21st to May 28th from 10:00am – 2:00pm. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday (May 26th – 28th) they’ll host extended hours until 3:00pm. Speak with a CVLRR volunteer to learn more about how they build their train models and the worlds they run through.
Other Train-themed Activities
Brio Trains will be available for play and train track building all month long. Special train building area will be featured in Mary’s Garden on the black mats where the blue blocks are currently located.
A special train-themed storytime will be held daily at 10:30am throughout the month of May. Join us on Monday, May 6th, at 1:30pm for a very special storytime with songs and puppets led my retired librarian, Laurie Cameron.
Train books will be available for families to read in the Family Resource center.
Museum staff will be hosting a train scavenger hunt throughout the month. Children can participate by finding trains hidden around the Museum. Earn a temporary tattoo when you complete the hunt!
