Dearest Community,
I want to take this opportunity to review the Children’s Museum’s safety and hiring procedures. Our highest priority is the well-being of the children and caregivers who visit the Children’s Museum.
To ensure a safe and nurturing environment at the Museum, we have implemented strict background check procedures for all individuals who work or volunteer here. References are carefully checked to assess the individual’s character and suitability for working with children. Only those who meet our stringent safety criteria are allowed to join the CMOSC team and volunteer corps. We conduct these checks regularly to maintain the highest standards of safety and security.
We are proud to have a large, diverse group of volunteers dedicated to promoting healthy child development: students, retired educators, long-term visitors, and community advocates. We recruit applicants for volunteer and team positions from many sources, but never from the criminal justice system.
Other ways CMOSC promotes and maintains safety include:
- Adult visitors not accompanied by children are not admitted to the Museum. Unaccompanied adult visitors are offered a supervised tour of the Museum by a team member.
- We ask that all children be supervised by their caregivers to prevent any child from being left unattended.
- All concerns raised are promptly reviewed and addressed by Museum leadership.
While prioritizing safety, the Museum also strives for inclusivity. This creates an atmosphere where all children feel represented and can learn and grow together. We are proud and grateful to have neurodiverse volunteers and team members. These valued individuals may sometimes have social challenges but do not pose a risk to visitors.
We are deeply honored to serve parents and caregivers in our community and profoundly appreciate the trust you place in us. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly at collette@cmosc.org or 707-546-4069 ext. 108.
Warm regards,
